There was a time when I believed that becoming happier meant adding more.

More productivity. More books. More routines. More goals. More reasons to feel like I was finally “getting my life together.”

But lately, I’ve started to realize something much quieter.

Peace isn’t always found in what we gain.

Sometimes it’s found in what we’re finally willing to release.

The truth is, letting go isn’t something that happens once. It’s a practice. Some days I catch myself holding onto worries that don’t belong to me, replaying conversations that are already over, or chasing a version of myself that no longer feels authentic.

And every time I choose to let go, even just a little, I create space for something better.

Space to breathe.

Space to enjoy ordinary moments.

Space to simply be.

A Few Things That Have Helped Me

Learning to let go didn’t happen overnight.

Some of the books I’ve read completely changed the way I look at myself. Writing in a journal has helped me organize thoughts that once felt overwhelming. Even small rituals—lighting a candle, making tea, reading a few affirmations—have become gentle reminders to slow down.

If you’re on a similar journey, I’ve gathered some of my favorite books, journals, affirmation cards and cozy self-care essentials in one collection.

Things I’m Learning to Let Go Of

1. The need to have everything figured out.

Life isn’t a race, and there isn’t a perfect timeline we’re all supposed to follow.

2. Comparing my journey to someone else’s.

Someone else’s success doesn’t take away from my own path.

3. Feeling guilty for resting.

Rest isn’t something I have to earn.

It’s part of living well.

4. Believing my worth depends on my productivity.

I am still valuable on the quiet days.

5. Trying to control every outcome.

Some of the best moments in life arrive unexpectedly.

6. Wanting everyone to understand me.

Not everyone is meant to see my story the way I do. And that’s okay.

7. The fear of disappointing people.

Choosing myself doesn’t make me selfish. It makes me honest.

8. Perfectionism.

Done with love will always mean more than perfect.

9. Overthinking conversations.

Most people are thinking about themselves far more than they’re thinking about me.

10. Carrying mistakes that belong in the past.

Growth begins the moment we stop introducing ourselves through old versions of who we were.

11. The idea that healing should happen quickly.

Healing has no deadline. Some seasons simply take longer than others.

12. Saying yes when my heart is quietly saying no.

Protecting my peace isn’t rude.

13. Waiting for the “perfect time.”

Sometimes today is enough.

14. Thinking every day has to be productive.

Some days are meant for growing flowers, drinking coffee slowly and watching the rain. Those days matter too.

15. Being too hard on myself.

I’m learning to speak to myself the way I would speak to someone I deeply love. With patience. With kindness. With hope.

A Gentle Reminder

If you’ve read this far, maybe there is something you’re carrying that has become heavier than it needs to be.
Maybe it’s an expectation.
Maybe it’s fear.
Maybe it’s guilt.
Maybe it’s a version of yourself you’ve already outgrown.

Whatever it is, I hope today gives you permission to loosen your grip just a little. Because peace doesn’t always arrive when life becomes perfect.
Sometimes it begins the moment we decide that we no longer have to carry everything.
